Shark Solutions’ collaboration sees launch of sustainable wall paint

Circularity Capital investee company Shark Solutions has collaborated with French paint manufacturer Initiatives Decoration (ID) to launch a new sustainable wall paint range.

ID's ECO Respectueuse paint is based on Shark Solutions' environmentally friendly, recycled PVB (PolyVinyl Butyral) Resin blend, sourced wholly from broken windshields and laminated building glass. Shark Solutions captures the highly valuable polymer interlayer that improves performance under impact in windscreens and architectural glass, separating this layer and transforming it into non-toxic and recyclable materials for use in paints, coatings, adhesives and flooring products. Manufacturer ID adds oyster shells powder, collected and recycled locally in France, as natural fillers, ensuring high covering power. The paint has an extremely low VOC (volatile organic component) level and its carbon footprint is one-sixth of comparable products.

The launch is the latest in ID's sustainable solutions research and development programme as part of the brand's drive to bring depolluting decorative paints to market. The brand holds two ISO 9001 certifications and the environmental quality standard ISO 14001.

"When Shark Solutions offered us its PVB-based sustainable resin, we immediately identified the environmental benefits of this technology," said Guy-Antoine Delavenne, ID managing director. "Recycled PVB as a raw material contributes to reduce our carbon footprint and to reduce waste in general. The resin produced by Shark Solutions is flexible, UV resistant, free from harmful substances, and allows the formulation of the paint with low VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions."

"Shark Solutions is proud to work with ID to provide this innovative and sustainable resin system into regular wall paints," added Shark Solutions founder Jens Holmegaard.
