Shark Solutions announces collaboration with EOC Group

Circularity Capital portfolio company Shark Solutions, a global leader in advanced recycled polyvinyl butyral (rPVB) products, has partnered with Belgian chemicals producer EOC Group to enhance sustainability in the carpet industry.

The partnership will see the two brands work closely together across Europe and Turkey, with Shark Solutions supplying EOC Group with PVB dispersion made from recycled windshields and architectural glass. This will be distributed to carpet manufacturers as an alternative, circular, and sustainable binder for carpet pre-coat and backings.

Utilising recycled PVB within carpet manufacture not only keeps valuable resources within the value chain for longer, but also lowers the sector’s carbon footprint by offsetting the need for emissions-intensive virgin binders.

With manufacturing operations across both Europe and the United States, Shark Solutions separates the valuable PVB layers from broken windshields and architectural glass and transforms it into non-toxic, sustainable, recyclable and price-competitive binders for use in paints, coatings, adhesives and flooring products.

EOC Group, on the other hand, is a global supplier of adhesives, specialty binders, coatings and surfactants for a wide variety of applications and industries. By working in close collaboration, the agreement will see sustainable rPVB binders used by a growing number of manufacturers worldwide.

Commenting on the announcement, Ian Nolan, partner at Circularity Capital, said: “Combining Shark Solutions’ expertise in speciality circular materials, with EOC Group’s experience in supply will accelerate much-needed circular economy thinking across the sector. This partnership will enable carpet manufacturers across Europe and Turkey to utilise waste side-streams and increase the sustainability of their products.”
