CERAFILTEC opens state-of-the-art facility in Saarbrücken

Circularity portfolio company CERAFILTEC, a global leader in the design and manufacture of ceramic ultrafiltration membrane solutions for the global water industry, has opened a new production, science and technology facility in Saarbrücken, Germany.

The centre will enable CERAFILTEC to produce and supply enough filtration modules to treat 3,000,000 m³/d of water and wastewater per annum. In addition, it will centralise engineering and administration operations, as well as enabling new product development and supporting the company’s ongoing international growth strategy.

Founded in 2016, CERAFILTEC produces ceramic ultrafiltration membrane solutions for the global water industry. With more than 110 project references in 35 countries worldwide, the company’s technology is used for the treatment of drinking water, as well as wastewater for re-use, desalination and industrial applications.

With only a fraction of wastewater reused due to challenges including cost, energy intensity and the ability to adequately filter out pollutants, ultrafiltration membranes are a key enabler for both increased water quality and re-use. CERAFILTEC’s market leading products last longer, provide superior water quality, use less energy and have a far lower operating cost when compared to more traditional, polymeric-based competitor solutions.

Kay Gunther Gabriel, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of CERAFILTEC, commented: “The inauguration of our new centre marks a significant milestone for both CERAFILTEC and the broader CFM technology landscape. This strategic investment paves the way for ceramic flat membrane solutions to become the standard in global filtration.

“Our Science & Technology Centre will spearhead the development of innovative Alumina and Silicon Carbide membranes, leading to new, sustainable, and transformative benchmarks.”

Ian Nolan, partner at Circularity Capital, added: “As one of our latest portfolio investments, we’re delighted to watch CERAFILTEC experience such rapid growth and continued industry success. We’re committed to supporting the company’s ambitious growth strategy and reaffirming its position as a sector leader.”
