Circularity Capital published in The Times

In August, Circularity Capital appeared in The Times, after partner Jamie Butterworth put forward his thoughts on a recent article referencing the circular economy.

“Strange Bedfellows” the editor’s description of circular economy as “an economic theory which values sustainability over growth” is rather missing the point. The circular economy is increasingly being used as framework for decoupling growth from virgin resources and fossil fuel energy. Irrespective of political leanings, businesses are increasingly adopting circular business models to create faster growing, higher-margin businesses, which are often out competing their more linear ‘take-make-dispose’ competitors. In the words of Frans van Houten, CEO of Philips the global healthcare giant: “we have realized, quite apart from the environmental imperative of decoupling economic growth from the ever-rising consumption of resources, that circular business models represent excellent commercial opportunities.”
